Why Elderberry is Still Safe During COVID-19
The rumor mill is turning, as it always does during times of hardship, but I’m here to set the record straight.
There have been some recent claims that elderberry is unsafe to take during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic because it is suspected that it creates a “cytokine storm.”
The cytokine storm is an excessive immune response that may occur in late-stage severe illness, typically occurring when patients reach intensive care.
When a cytokine storm is present, “the cell senses it’s being attacked and so unleashes a cytokine storm so the infection invasion does not spread to other cells.”
Cytokine storms most commonly occur during ARDS Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome or infections such as the pneumonia which is where a lot of this concern is coming from.
But don’t worry. According to a recent article published by New Hope Network “Elderberry supplements are positive immune support supplements to recommend, without any fear of a backlash particular to those customers worried about the COVID-19 virus.”
I’m here to tell you there is no concern to use elderberry during COVID-19.
We now have documentation from master herbalists and clinical researchers that say it’s safe to consume elderberry in tea, tincture, or the most famous elderberry syrup.
According to herbalist Chris Kilham “...recommending elderberry remains a positive notion to tell customers. They can help support a healthy immune response, and that could help a person’s overall immune health constitution.”
While elderberry isn’t a cure for the coronavirus, we do know elderberries will support your immune system.
