It’s Time to Get Fired Up About These Types of Peppers

Packed with vitamins and minerals, peppers provide excellent health benefits such as strengthening the immune system. In addition to their nutritional value, peppers are also low in fat and calories, which makes them a great part of your diet and a nutritious addition to Andi Lynn’s FIRE, Raw Apple Cider Tonic.

The different types of peppers have different levels of capsaicin, which is what gives certain peppers their spicy heat. The hotter the pepper, the more capsaicin the pepper contains. To help people understand how hot a pepper is, everyone measures a pepper’s spice level in Scoville heat units (SHU).

Going from mildest to hottest on the Scoville scale, we have listed out a few notable peppers that provide health benefits and can spice up your next meal. After all, it’s that special blend of peppers in Andi Lynn’s FIRE Tonic that give our delicious blend an extra kick!

Bell Peppers 0 Scoville heat units (SHU)
Sweet and fruity, bell peppers are safe for people who are sensitive to spiciness. They are also delicious to munch on as a snack. Whether you want to eat them raw or roasted, bell peppers can be prepared and eaten in many ways. A fresh bell pepper is 92 percent water and the rest is made up of carbohydrates and fats. In addition to its high-water content, these peppers are one of the best sources of vitamin C as a medium bell pepper contains 169 percent of your daily value.

Pasilla Peppers (1,000-1,500 SHU)
Not too spicy, but still with a little bit of heat, pasilla peppers are traditionally used in sauces, salsas, and even pico de gallo. These peppers are known to have a crisp taste that is flavorful for a hot pepper.  Pasilla peppers also contain high levels of vitamin B6, which may help with memory and cognitive functions. Pasilla also has a high amount of magnesium, which is important for normal heart rhythm and bone health.

Jalapeno Peppers (5,000-9,000 SHU)
The heat gets turned up with jalapeno peppers, which means that they contain more capsaicin. Studies have shown that capsaicin can increase fat-burning efforts and promote weight-loss. Like the other varieties of chili peppers, jalapenos are rich in vitamins A and C. However, what sets this pepper apart from the other peppers is that jalapenos are a great source of pyridoxine and vitamins E and K. The extra nutritional value that jalapenos offer is just one of the reasons why we add it to our Andi Lynn’s FIRE Tonic, and it’s what makes the tonic both delicious and super beneficial to your daily health!

Serrano Peppers (5,000-19,000 SHU)
This type of pepper packs in some heat, but is also full of some nutritional benefits. We add serrano pepper into our FIRE Tonic because it contains more vitamin C than an orange and is an excellent source of antioxidants. Talk about giving your immune system a fiery boost! Like the jalapeno, serrano peppers also contain a high amount of capsaicin, which means that they are also beneficial for weight-loss and burning fat.

Thai Pepper (50,000-100,000 SHU)
Also known as the bird’s eye pepper, this tiny, hot pepper carries a lot of heat. These peppers are generally used in curry and Thai soups and are known to have a delayed but lingering heat after eaten. In fact, people have even said that the Thai pepper has a true fiery kick as it hits you when you don’t expect it. If you can stand the heat, these peppers are great for increasing energy levels and boosting metabolism.

Habanero Pepper (200,000-350,000 SHU)
The Habanero pepper is FIERY HOT! Its citrusy taste makes it a great pepper to cook with, but it is important to take extreme caution with this pepper as the level of capsaicin can cause stinging and burning of not handled properly. Although habaneros are not the hottest peppers on the market, the amount of capsaicin that they contain does support weight loss and reduces inflammation. In addition to the benefits that the heat in the pepper provides, the habanero is also a great source of potassium.
